Protect Senior Loved Ones this Summer with 24 Hour Caregivers

Newport is a great place to be this summer. With beautiful beaches lining up to crisp waters, and parks available for its residents, it's hard not to want to go out and enjoy the sun. However, Southern California weather, though famous for having year round pleasant temperatures, does tend to experience increases every year. Temperatures can even go as high as 100 degrees, which is particularly harmful for infants, but especially for elderly seniors. Their bodies are not able to withstand such extremes, and so they may suffer dizzy spells or falls as a result.

Since the summer is also a busy season, it can be difficult for people to find someone that will be constantly available to watch older family members. So if you're in need of a reliable 24 hour live in or in home caregiver, look no further than A-1 Home Care. We've been in the business since 1991 and have developed a reputation among our customers as the top provider of professional Senior caregivers. We recruit only the caregivers who have 2 or more years of caregiving experience in order to ensure that our customers are in safe hands. Not only can our caregivers administer Elder Care services, but they are also trained in providing Companion Care, Arthritis Care, and more.

Call our office now at 949 650 8400 to give your loved ones the caregiver they deserve. Check out our page at Newport Beach In Home Care and like us on Facebook!

National Glaucoma Awareness Month/ A-1 Home Care

Did you know that January is National Glaucoma Awareness Month?

Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in the U.S. It most often occurs in adults and elders over age 40.  People with a family history of glaucoma, African Americans over the age of 40, and Hispanics over the age of 60 are at an increased risk of developing glaucoma. Other risk factors include thinner corneas, chronic eye inflammation, and using medications that increase the pressure in the eyes.

Though there aren't any cures for Glaucoma, there are an array of treatments that can slow, and treat the painful side effects of this illness. A-1 Home Care encourages seniors to consult their doctors regarding these medical options.

A-1 Home Care has provided excellent in home care services for elderly clients since 1991. We offer live in and hourly caregiving in the cities of Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Corona Del Mar, Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Seal Beach, Los Alamitos, and others in Orange County.

Yummy eats after surgery/ After Surgery Caregivers

Anytime that you undergo a surgery, your body must take a while to restore and heal. The drain on energy after surgery is serious, requiring time, depending on how invasive the surgery was. Luckily, there are things that can be done for healing. A top contender is diet, and a great diet for post surgery recovery is the anti inflammatory diet.

How to follow the anti-inflammatory diet:

Unhealthy fats promote inflammation."Most people eating a Western diet high in processed food or fast food consume a lot of omega-6 fats – and not enough of the anti-inflammatory omega-3 fats – and it is this imbalance between the two that promotes inflammation [in the body]."

Omega-6 fats are found in corn, safflower, sunflower, peanut and soybean oils.
Have you ever wondered why trans fat is unhealthy?A fat that is highly inflammatory in trans fat. This fat is found in processed or fast foods, especially those that are fried.

Refined carbohydrates are pro-inflammatory. These foods elevate insulin and glucose levels, which raise levels of pro-inflammatory messengers.

Food allergies or sensitivities can play a role in inflammation. Many people are intolerant to the proteins in wheat and dairy, and this can initiate an inflammatory cascade that starts in the gut but can have far-reaching [systemic] effects.
